Teach For America Corps
The Teach For America Corps is a two-year experience led through Teach For America whereby high-impact leaders commit to two years of leadership in a classroom. Corps members receive individualized coaching, access to high-quality instructional content, and participate in group workshops throughout the year. Corps members also participate in a certification program towards earning their Michigan teaching certification.
Early-Career Educator Fellowship
The Early-Career Educator Fellowship is a two-year experience-based opportunity for educators interested in building strong foundations of instruction. Through the Early-Career Educator Fellowship, participants will engage in group coaching, expert-led high quality professional development on culturally responsive pedagogy and practice, instructional best practices for rigor and academic excellence, community building, and teacher leadership, as well as diversity, equity and inclusion. Fellows will leave the program with the mindsets and skills necessary to lead transformational classrooms.
To be eligible for consideration for the Early Career Educator Fellowship, candidates must have:
- Completed at least one year as a classroom teacher
- active teacher certification
- growth mindset and openness to ongoing feedback
- capacity to commit to all fellowship experiences, including quarterly weekend workshops and evening events, as well as school-based coaching activities
Aspiring Leader Fellowship
Through the Aspiring Leaders Fellowship, participants engage in professional learning to strengthen their leadership development. Over a two-year span, fellows will focus on their individual impact, including establishing a clear vision of their leadership and reflective practices to evaluate their growth and progress towards fulfilling that vision.
To be eligible for consideration for the Aspiring Leaders Fellowship, candidates must have:
- at least five years of experience teaching and/or leading
- active teacher OR administrator certification
- the opportunity to serve in some leadership capacity in order to apply learnings to your school context (Leadership roles may range from principal/assistant principal to deans/master teachers. Reach out if you have questions about specific eligibility of a given role).
- capacity to commit to all fellowship experiences, including quarterly weekend workshops and evening events, local site visits with small groups of fellows, and individual coaching
National Board Certification Fellowship
The National Board Certification Fellowship is a rigorous two-year opportunity to engage experienced teachers in learnings that continue to push their craft and deepen their impact as culturally relevant educators to pursue National Board Certification in their respective certificate areas. Collectively, participants will enrich their leadership impact in their respective schools by joining with a like-valued cohort of educators to accelerate change in their classroom and to be a part of the positive change needed within their school communities. Fellows will also deepen their knowledge of content and pedagogy through the program’s key components including workshops and coaching from a National Board Certified educator. Over a two-year span, fellows will use the knowledge gleaned to support submission of a high-quality National Board Certification portfolio.
To be eligible for consideration for the National Board Fellowship, candidates must have:
- at least four years of experience teaching
- track record of success in supporting students to achieve academic outcomes and demonstrating habits, skills, and mindsets of a reflective practitioner
- capacity to commit to all fellowship experiences, including quarterly weekend workshops and evening events, a minimum of a monthly coaching touchpoint, and considerable time required outside of the work day.
- Candidates should understand that efforts towards National Board Certification entails a significant time commitment of up to an estimated 8-10* hours per week to produce a high-quality submission.
Sitting Leader Fellowship
The Sitting Leader Fellowship is designed for assistant principals and principals throughout the state of Michigan who are seeking development to lead more just and equitable school communities. Through engagement in convenings, workshops, coaching, and additional experiential learning opportunities, fellows will develop the adaptive and technical skills of school leadership, and they will apply their learnings to benefit their school communities.
To be eligible for consideration for the Sitting Leader Fellowship, candidates must have
- Must sit in a principal or assistant principal role
- Have the capacity to commit to all fellowship experiences, including quarterly weekend workshops and evening events, local site visits with small groups of fellows, and individual coaching
Michigan Education Policy Fellowship
The Michigan Education Policy Fellowship is a policy leadership opportunity for current or previous educators and school leaders. Participants are matched up with organizations from September through June to provide fellows additional experience to become system-level leaders in the field of policy, advocacy, and/or organizing while creating a unique learning space for the cohort to reflect and build collectively. Fellows are expected to commit between 10 to 15 hours per week (up to 10 hours with the partner organization, up to 5 hours with Teach For America Detroit), and they are compensated for their time.
To be eligible for consideration for MEPF, candidates must have:
- at least four years of professional experience, including experience as a teacher or school leader
- ability to learn quickly and work both independently and collaboratively on projects related to policy, advocacy, and/or community organizing
- capacity to commit to all fellowship experiences, including quarterly weekend workshops and evening events, as well as part-time partner organization work
Detroit Summer Impact Fellowship
Detroit Summer Impact Fellowship is an eight-week leadership opportunity for current or previous educators. Participants are matched up with a community organization in Detroit or Michigan to become system-level leaders in the field of education, policy, and/or nonprofits while creating a unique learning space for the cohort. The fellowship develops talented educators by working with different organizations on projects that are high priority and equity focused. Fellows are expected to commit between 25 to 30 hours per week (up to 25 hours with the partner organization, up to 5 hours with Teach For America), and they are compensated for their time.
To be eligible for consideration for DSIF, candidates must have:
- at least one year of professional experience, including experience as a teacher or school leader
- ability to learn quickly and work both independently and collaboratively on projects in the field of education, policy, and/or nonprofits
Systems Leader Fellowship
The Teach Michigan Systems Leader Fellowship is a 10-month program that aims to develop the next generation of Michigan’s education leaders. Participants engage in an innovative program designed to provide school systems leaders with opportunities to explore best practices from across the country to apply to their own contexts, focus on mastery of adaptive skills alongside specific domains of expertise, and work closely with other systems leaders who aim to lead innovative systems that improve achievement and outcomes for children and families.
