About TeachMichigan

TeachMichigan is a five-year initiative powered by Teach For America Detroit that invests in the next generation of high-impact educators who serve in Title 1 schools. This initiative directly invests an average of $35,000 into each participating educator while providing best-in-class professional development and fostering a collaborative, connected community. The learnings from TeachMichigan will be captured and analyzed to inform a policy roadmap toward making Michigan the best place to be an educator.

TeachMichigan will adapt Teach For America Detroit’s program in seven geographically diverse regions, from Detroit/southeast Michigan to West Michigan to the Upper Peninsula. This initiative has four key components:

  • 1 Using competitive benefits to attract, recruit, retain, and develop 1,000 high-impact educators into the TeachMichigan fellowship
  • 2 Energize educators with best-in-class learning and innovation funds to drive student outcomes, and a connected professional community
  • 3 Conduct third-party research on the scaled impact of educator benefits and fellowship programming on student outcomes and teacher retention
  • 4 Elevate TeachMichigan educator success stories with a state-wide media campaign

TeachMichigan is operated by Teach For America Detroit in partnership with districts and schools across Michigan. While this effort is only being operated through 2026, the ultimate goal is to have retained high-impact educators in various communities across Michigan and captured learning that informs a policy roadmap toward future state education funding.
